We have just been informed by our local county court that there is to be a court fee increase on 1st September 2010. As usual we received less than 7 days notice of the increase which in real terms is a 12% uplift in the fees being charged to users of the family justice system.
The main increase is in the cost of filing a divorce petition from £300 to £340.00.
The Court Service website has still not been updated and we doubt many websites that deal with divorce will have received notification of these increases because of the ineptitude of their local courts. We only found out about it when someone on the counter happened to remember and told us verbally. It then took a phone call to get the court to send a fax with details of the increases.

Iniquitous – but at least you got notice of it! The first we heard was when a petition was rejected as the fee paid was insufficient! This was obviously rushed through very quickly. All part of the squeeze on public expenditure I guess…
